The Darkness II (2012)

What is better than a Mafia game? How about a Mafia game where you have an extra set of demon arms to help fight?! Didn't play the 1st game, but The Darkness 2, I really enjoyed this one. Good story and not too bad of boss fights. Really enjoyed the sanitarium parts. Good dual wielding gun fights with addition of having extra arms to grab/block/throw things. Heard it was extra short but it took me 8hrs so not bad compared to length of most games.

Hard Reset (2011)

Hard Reset was a good run n gun old school vibe shooter. Really enjoyed the world as it had a nice Blade Runner vibe. Would like it more if they fleshed it out (RPG FPS please!) as it was empty except for enemies. Still a lot of fun. Main game + expansion was nice.

Syndicate (2012)

Never played the original Syndicate so had no luggage based on it now been a FPS. Enjoyed the game as a shooter with the slow down hud and powers. Not a fan, as most people weren't either, of the excessive lighting and bloom. Not Deus Ex but fun run and gun if got for cheap.

Jedi Academy (2003)

I had played Jedi Outcast long ago but never played Academy. Got it on a steam deal. Looked a bit dated but quickly forgot and just had fun throwing my saber and force pushing storm troopers off ledges. Never gets old. Well, sort of does as I played about 8/10 and then quick. Got tired of rooms full of multi jedis. Still fun game though.

Day Z (2012)

Day Z is a zombie mod for Armed Assault. Haven't played MP in years but enjoyed this while I played it. You spawn with only a pistol, little food and little bandages (least when I played). Then you scavage towns for supples and better weapons while avoiding or fighting AI zombies. On your way you come across MP players who may or may not be friendly. If you die you have to start a new character. You can play any server and it remembers your characters condition/supplies at last log out.

Jericho (2007)

Picked up Clive_Barker's_Jericho in Target's secret budget shelf long ago. Finally got around to playing it. Was reluctant due to bad reviews but thought it was an OK run and gun. Liked having a group of ai on my side and hopping between controlling them. Levels looked nice and so were the bad guys. Main bad thing was small levels that seemed to be hallways (go left, go straight, go right, go straight, etc.). More open levels would have made it a lot better. Not worth full price but fun enough for the $5 I paid.

Rhapsody

Normally listen to punk/grunge/desert rock style music but listen to classic rock on the radio on drive to work. Have Beatles, CCR, Black Sabbath, Doors, Zep and Jethro Tull but beyond that only hear whats on radio. Trying to listen to full discography of bands in order. So far have done The Who, Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Mountain, Ram Jam and a few I forgot.

Currently working through Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Genesis, Van Halen and Ozzy solo.

Dark Sector (2009)

One of my Target bargain bin nabs. Dark Sector was a fun enough game as it reminded me of Timeshift mixed with some Tomb Raider (Though wasn't as good as either of them). Not a fan of 3rd person games but this was enjoyable for the 10hrs or so I played. Made it to 2nd to last boss before throwing in the towel. Mouse set up was weird as I still prefered it for zoom/gun but ended up using spacebar for the krull like weapon. Not greatest game but not worst. Enjoyable unique throwing star weapon, especially once you can control it in flight.

PS so far not a fan of new blogger format.

Mass Effect (2008)

Long after this was released I picked it up. Enjoyed it but think I like KOTOR better, though I did enjoy ME1's combat system. I played for a bit then stalled at the Citadel. When I came back to the game just went through mostly the main missions and skipped all side missions. Still took a decent 20hrs. Think my favorite part was the end battles except the final boss where I just did the strafe and shoot method to beat it. Do like that its SciFi as opposed to the usual Sword and Sorcery RPG that is usually made. Have ME2 to play but want to get through some other FPS or other RPG worlds first.

PC on Android (HP Touchpad)

While I enjoy the android style games on my touchpad, I still prefer PC games. Have come across a few ways to play PC games on it: Gemrb to play old Bioware RPGs (Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment) [Was tricky to get BG1 working with widescreen mod due to needint to take android menu bar into account when choosing resolution - 1024 by 720); Heroes of Might and Magic 2 for strategy goodness using Free Heroes; Scummvm for old school adventure games (sierra, lucas arts, etc.); Infocom text adventures using different apps (twisty, zmpp); and dosbox variants to play some old school dos games (prefer dosbox turbo to andosbox so far, didnt mind paying as free adosbox is slow to update) [Can use wiimote to control it if I dont want keyboard but haven't found a way to quick switch between the two].

Borderlands (2009)

Got this on a steam deal and was hoping it would scratch some Autoduel itch since it includes car combat. Liked the cell shaded style and it was fun for the 10hrs or so I played but after a while I got tired of it. Just not enough single player there to keep me playing, but I could see how MP or Coop would be fun. I'm also not into loot drop games so getting random weapons with special powers doesn't pull me in. Still fun for the $5 I paid for it, just not enough to play through the whole thing.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011)

1st Deus Ex was one of my fav old school fps-rpg hybrids. Still wish the trend was followed more. This was an excellent DE game as it took what was good from the old game and brought it up to date. Think 1st had better story, but this one had better gameplay. Still don't get why they make so many people sized vents though (Lots a hiding n sniping from them) :) One of the best cyberpunk futuristic fps/rpgs to date. Took me about 40hrs and I enjoyed all of it. Did think story was a bit weak but gameplay/exploration was excellent. Would like to see mini stories in this universe instead of long story.
